IDBI Bank celebrated Farmers Day on 23rd December 2016 across the Country

Mumbai, January 06, 2017: IDBI Bank has celebrated Farmer's Day by conducting 'Kisan Sangosthis'at rural & semi-urbanlocations across the country. Farmers’ Day is observed by Government of India on 23rd December every year to acknowledge the important role played by farmers in socio economic development of the country.

The event was flagged off by Shri K. P. Nair, Deputy Managing Director on 22.12.2016 at Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, where Shri Suresh Khatanhar ED-PSG and Shri Rajeev Kumar, Field CGM, Delhi Zone were also present. Kisan Sangosthis were organized by all rural & semi-urban branches of the Bank at around 660 locations across the country in a uniform format, where more than about 30000 farmers participated on a single day. Shri Kishor Kharat, MD & CEO, in his message greeted the farmers of the country and highlighted the significant role played by IDBI Bank for the nation building in the past 52 years and also the major initiatives taken for agricultural development. Kisan Sangosthis were addressed by senior officials of the Bank and various products/ facilities available for agricultural activities were discussed. The need for switching over to electronic payments was stressed and various options available for cashless credit delivery were discussed during the meetings.

Officials from local bodies, Agri/ Veterinary/ Fisheries Departments, NABARD, KVK and Agriculture Universities have attended the Kisan Sangosthis and shared their expertise and latest developments in the field of agriculture, with the farmers. Progressive farmers with good track record were felicitated by the Bank.

IDBI Bank has been focusing on Priority Sector Lending with emphasis on lending to Small and Marginal Farmers (SFMF) with various innovative products, corporate tie-ups and BC/ BF infrastructure built by the Bank. The growth registered by the bank in lending under this segment during the last three years has been significant particularly under SFMF category. The unique initiative taken by IDBI Bank in organising Kisan Sangosthis was widely appreciated by the farming community.
